Your first step of reaching out for counselling can be a difficult one and yet opens you up to experience positive change. As your counsellor, I aim to be a compassionate companion, walking alongside you on your journey of healing. I am available to meet in person, as well as offer the option to walk and talk, telephone sessions, or online/virtual video-counselling. By creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space, I aim to counsel with compassion, connection and creating space for change and growth.
I am a long-time resident of the Mt. Seymour / Deep Cove area, and my passion and purpose in life has been helping others. I enjoy connecting with people, and listening from a place of kindness and compassion, with the hope of continuing to create and contribute to our community, a space for supporting one’s journey and overall well-being. My educational background and work experience consists of having worked in the medical field in the following areas: pediatric lab/pathology, radiology, and long-term care. In addition, I have studied and worked in the social work field and early childhood education. In 2019, I was diagnosed with autoimmune conditions that resulted in my retirement as a medical laboratory assistant; but I remained in the healthcare field in an administrative role. It was during my time there; I began reflecting and realized just how much I missed working with people directly and decided to stay in the helping field and pursue a career as a Counsellor. Upon my return to school, I discovered just how passionate I am about clinical counselling, and it has passionately called out to me, allowing for personal growth while being a resource to others.
Theoretical Orientations
Empirically-supported perspectives guide my practice including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy. I believe in the potential for healing associated with Somatic Therapy, Therapeutic Release Sessions, Eco-Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) also known as “Tapping”, Gottman’s Theory and mindfulness-based practices.
A combination of these theories allows me to tailor therapy for each individual I meet to support short-term, vital skill-building interventions coupled with more in-depth, experiential approaches.
